ALTER AND ROSARY GUILD
The Altar and Rosary Guild of St. Peter’s Church offers spiritual and secular activities. The members belong to a spiritual family, whose aim is to spread Marian devotion. Their many activities afford the membership numerous opportunities to get involved in parish functions and to affirm one another. They welcome any and all women of the parish who wish to join. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month, in the Parish Hall at 7:00p.m. Activities include: “organized” committees, i.e. – linen – altar cleaning – flowers – baking, baptismal bib makings, etc. The Guild plans raffles to benefit church and other communities; coordinates the Parish Giving Tree during Advent; plans luncheons, speakers, annual Mass for deceased members, and annual Mass and picnic in June. |
HOLY NAME SOCIETY
Join a group of
good men who
promote the
following within
their
organization:
-
Respect for
the most
Holy Name of
God
-
Faith in the
Catholic
Church
-
Loyalty to
one's
country
-
Respect for
all lawful
authority
both civil
and
religious.
We are the Holy
Name Society of
St. Peter's
Parish in
Lewiston.
Our meetings are
held on the
second Sunday of
each month
(except July and
August). We
assemble in the
back of the
church prior to
the 9:30 a.m.
Mass, process to
our seats and
participate in
the Mass as a
group. The Holy
Name Society is
a source of
giving honor and
glory to our God
and an
opportunity for
personal
sanctification
of its members
by doing acts of
love and
devotion to the
most Holy Name
of Jesus. You
may have noticed
on Holy Name
Sunday, Father
Sibby recognizes
the society for
gathering
together as a
body to share in
the gift of the
Eucharist.
Following Mass,
we adjourn to
the school
cafeteria to
enjoy a hearty
breakfast, and a
very short (fun)
meeting. Father
Sibby comes down
(schedule
permitting) to
greet us and say
the blessing. If
you normally
attend one of
the other
scheduled
Masses, please
try on the
second Sunday of
the Month to
attend the 9:30
a.m. Mass and
join us. Our
Holy Name
Society
organizes the
St. Peter's
family picnic
each July;
provides a
donation of $750
to the St.
Peter's School
Scholarship Fund
to assist with
tuition for
those unable to
afford a
Catholic
education for
their child. In
the past, the
society
purchased the
nativity scene
that is setup in
front of the
church every
Christmas, and
also assists in
setting up
another nativity
scene in the
center of the
village near
Hibbard's. We
hold two
fund-raisers
during the year
to provide for
these
activities. One
is a snow-cone
sale in front of
the church,
which is held
during the
Lewiston Art
Festival. Maybe
you have seen us
or evenpurchased
a snow-cone from
us. Please know
that when you
join St.
Peter'sHoly Name
Society you are
not obligated to
work our
fund-raisers,
for our main
goal is of a
religious
nature; namely
to attend Mass
as a group and
share a friendly
breakfast with
men from all
walks of life
that honor the
Holy Name of
Jesus Christ. As
with many other
organizations,
through
attrition, our
societies and
clubs are dying.
As president of
St. Peter's Holy
Name Society, my
goal is to
breathe new life
into our
society. We
welcome all men
of the parish to
come and join
us. Dues are $5
per year and if
you are over age
65 your dues are
free. We would
enjoy your
company – come
join us as a
member of the
St. Peter's Holy
Name Society. To
join the Holy
Name Society,
please call the
rectory for more
information!
Join
us to see what
you have been
missing!!!!

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
Function of Organization: The St. Vincent de Paul Society, a Catholic lay organization, leads its members to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering, in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those they serve, because in the needy, Vincentians see the face of Christ. Meetings: When: 2nd & 4th Monday of the Month Time & Place: 7:30 p.m. – School Library Activities: Members conduct home visits to those in need to access their circumstances and determine how best to help them. All contacts and information obtained is kept strictly confidential. We make and deliver food baskets to 50 -70 families at both Thanksgiving and Christmas. We also deliver food as it is donated throughout the year and authorize emergency food purchases when necessary. We conduct weekly visits to the residents of the Fairchild Nursing Home, and once a year, take them on a picnic to the Fatima Shrine. We conduct two clothing drives every year, in the Spring and Fall. We also provide other types of emergency assistance as needed. We are fortunate to be generously supported by our parishioners through a second Sunday collection once a year.
